I use a Blackberry which is connected through the BES to my Exchange Server. Normally, when I read an email on the Blackberry, it will show as a read item when I open my Outlook on the PC. For some reason, it is no longer marking the items as read. Anyone know why?

The BB works with a system that is called “Pulling” the email. Because of this it does not affect your email server, thereby leaving it in place.

If you are on a BlackBerry Enterprise Server then your emails should be marked as read if they are read on the handheld or the computer. BTW the BES uses PUSH technology, it constantly scans your mailbox at the server level, detects changes and forwards those changes in REAL TIME. Pull technology (BlackBerry Internet Service) checks your inbox every 15 minutes (sometimes faster) then sends you the message.

Things to try:
1. Go into your main messages folder and click on the menu button >Options >Email Reconciliation >Make sure that “Wireless Reconcile” is set to ON and Delete On is set to Mailbox and Handheld. Also make sure that your message service is set to “Desktop” (you will not have a different choice if you only have your corporate email on the handheld)

**TEST**

2. Email Reconciliation is controlled by the Desktop (CMIME) service book, and sometimes it’s connectors become malaligned. Go to Options >Advanced Options >Service Book >highlight Desktop (CMIME) >click the menu button >DELETE. Then click the menu button again and UNDELETE. This action will in essecense, realign the service book.

**TEST**

4. From your main screen turn your Wireless radio off (sometimes found in Manage Connections.) Contact your IT department and have them send you new service books.
Go to Options >Advanced Options >Service Book >Highlight Desktop (CMIME) >hit the menu button >DELETE.
Turn your wireless radio on and the service books will be pushed out by the server. You may be waiting for up to 5 minutes as you will be in a queue.

**TEST**

5. Contact your IT dept, ask them to remove you from the BlackBerry Enterprise Server and when prompted, they will want to “remove all user information from the BlackBerry mailbox.” Then have them readd you and assign you a new Enterprise Activation password. What you need to do is WIPE your handheld. Go to Options >Security Options >General Settings >click the Menu Button >Wipe Handheld. Once you have entered “BlackBerry” and the wipe completes, your device will reboot and your will ihave to turn the Wireless radio ON. Now go to Options >Advanced Options >Enterprise Activation >Enter your email address and the password that was supplied by the IT Department >Click the MENU button and choose Activate. After about 10minutes (depending on how much data you have) you will be able to use your BlackBerry. Until you see that the Enterprise Activation is complete DO NOT TOUCH THE BLACKBERRY

**TEST**
