“Email blast” is a gentle phrase for “Spam”. Sending unsolicited advertisements over the internet. No one likes it. But it must work because so many scammers do it. It would be better if someone honest like a health insurance company did it; as long as they provided good information. So go ahead and try. But be wary of buying email lists. YOu can never be sure who is actually going to receive your emails. You don’t want them to go to teenagers or people in nursing homes..

Jennie,

The “conversion rate” of spam — the probability that an unsolicited email will ultimately elicit a “sale” is minuscule. In a study conducted at the University of California, San Diego, after 26 days, and almost 350 million e-mail messages, only 28 sales resulted — a conversion rate of well under 0.00001%.

Maybe your results will be better but consider:

Are you licensed to sell health insurance in every State? If not you will need to restrict your mailing to the State in which you are licensed.

Even though many employers have cut back on benefit levels and are requiring higher employee contributions to share the cost the fact remains that most Americans still have health insurance through their employers. People with existing group benefits will be wasted emails.

People who have existing health problems will be natural prospects to accept your proposal. Many have been declined already and are desperate to secure health insurance so they have nothing to lose by allowing you to “spin your wheels”.

It is one thing to sell a widget based on price alone but health insurance is very technical so your “comparison” requires more than a final premium to properly present your proposal.
